At United Way of Massachusetts Bay, we believe that complex problems require innovative solutions. That includes the options we provide for our donors to support our mission.

We’re rebuilding for better, more equitable and more resilient communities.

Last year, we mobilized our deep partnerships with hundreds of nonprofit organizations, state and municipal leaders, and thousands of businesses to:

  • Deploy over $25 million in Covid-19 relief and recovery funds
  • Provide more than 400,000 people with emergency financial assistance, helping them to pay for food, housing, utilities, and other essential needs
  • Field nearly 500,000 calls for assistance with Covid-19 resources, mental health support and other essential needs through United Way’s 2-1-1 hotline.

It’s going to take much more than emergency financial assistance to help our communities emerge stronger and more prepared for the future.  Your support of United Way this year will:

  • Prevent those who have lost income from losing their housing.
  • Pivot job training programs to prepare displaced workers for new positions.
  • Expand access to early education to provide a solid foundation for young learners and empower parents/caregivers to get back to work and contribute to the economy.
  • Engage our most vulnerable students with the social and emotional supports they need as they return to school by expanding access to afterschool programs
  • Address the systemic racial and ethnic disparities revealed and heightened by the crisis.

Why give Crypto?

There’s a reason high net worth individuals tend to donate property instead of cash. Donating cryptocurrency directly to a 501c3 nonprofit is more tax efficient and can save you money. The IRS classifies cryptocurrency as property for tax purposes which means it is typically the most tax-efficient way to support your favorite cause. When donating crypto, you receive a tax deduction for the fair market value of the crypto, and you avoid the capital gains tax you would have incurred if you had sold the crypto and then made a donation. That means you’re able to donate more, as well as deduct more on your tax return. The difference? Sometimes more than 30%.  If you provide an email, you will automatically receive a tax receipt after donating.

Refund Policy

All cryptocurrency donations are nonrefundable. We work hard to ensure that every token that is donated is put to work as soon as possible. When we receive your donation it is understood that this is made to support our mission and we are grateful for your support. As these donations are immediately converted into fiat, we do not offer refunds on any donations that are made in cryptocurrency. We are not able to give refunds if you change your mind, sent the wrong cryptocurrency, or made the wrong decision. No goods, services, or airdrops will be offered in exchange for cryptocurrency donations.  More information can be found here.
