TD Bank and United Way establish Greater Lawrence Relief Fund

Initial distribution of $50,000 will go to four local organizations

September 14, 2018 – TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank@ and United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley announce they are establishing the Greater Lawrence Relief Fund and will make an initial distribution of $50,000 to help families meet their basic needs and recover from the displacement from their homes and businesses caused by gas explosions. Additionally, United Way is providing immediate assistance to Merrimack Valley families affected by the gas explosions in the region through its 211 service.

Those in need of assistance with housing, transportation, child care and other needs may access support services by dialing 211.  As of 5 a.m. Friday morning, the 211 line had received over 500 calls for assistance related to the Merrimack Valley fires. Resources can also be searched online by visiting

United Way and TD Charitable Foundation have provided contributions of $25,000 each to launch the Greater Lawrence Relief Fund to help the communities of Andover, Lawrence and North Andover with their recovery and rebuilding efforts in the weeks and months ahead. One-hundred percent of the funds raised will be distributed to the affected communities.

After consulting with local officials and its community-based partners in the region, United Way will make an initial distribution of $50,000 to the following organizations: American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay, Family Services of Merrimack Valley, Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, and Lawrence Community Works.

“Through our donations for recovery efforts, we’re ready to help families and individuals in our communities recover from these devastating explosions,” said Dan Griggs, TD Market President for Eastern Massachusetts.
