United Way of Massachusetts Bay partners In the News as “The Lyndia” opens in Jamaica Plain adding 170 units added to the state’s Supportive Housing Pipeline

United Way of Massachusetts Bay partners The Community Builders and Pine Street Inn were featured In the News this week for the grand opening of "The Lyndia," a 202-unit building in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood.
Featured in “Pine Street Inn and The Community Builders Announce Opening of New England’s Largest Development for Housing with Support”, the exciting new development is being celebrated by the Massachusetts Supportive Housing Pipeline Coalition and its goal to build more than 250,000 units of Safe and Supportive Housing across the state in the next 10 years.
“The Lyndia”, named for Pine Street Inn Executive Director, Lyndia Downie, has 140 apartments for people moving out of homelessness and 62 apartments for income-eligible families. The 140 units represent the largest development for housing with support in New England.
"The opening of this new building marks a milestone for Pine Street Inn, bringing our total to more than 1,000 units of housing – 1,100 to be exact – for people moving out of homelessness," Downie told reporters. "The building offers 140 units of housing with support, the largest development of its kind in New England. Together with The Community Builders, our development partners, we are creating a community where people can rebuild their lives, along with staff who support tenants in remaining stable and housed."
The opening was attended by state and city leaders, including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Secretary Ed Augustus of the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities and Secretary Kate Walsh of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
“The Lyndia is not only a tribute to a champion in ending homelessness, it shows the power of cross-sector collaboration,” says Christi Staples, SVP of Policy at United Way of Massachusetts Bay. “When we all work together to create the permanent supportive housing needed to address chronic and high need homelessness we all benefit.””
Pine Street Inn and The Community Builders are two of United Way of Massachusetts Bay’s New Way Forward partners working to ensure safe and stable housing across the Commonwealth.
