Greater Boston

United Way is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals, families, and children in need throughout the Greater Boston area. Our work and that of our partners makes a real impact on communities across the region, from Chelsea and Dorchester to Somerville, Malden, and Medford. Together, we work everyday to ensure everyone in our footprint has the means to forge a better future.

Ending Homelessness

Pay for Success provides permanent, supportive housing to almost 800 homeless veterans and chronically homeless individuals through our partnership with the Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance. By the end of 2019, we aim to provide at least 500 units of low-threshold, stable housing for more than half of Boston’s chronically homeless population.

Moving Families Out of Poverty

Boston Builds Credit aims to provide thousands more people throughout Greater Boston with the financial opportunities offered by good credit. The program is a partnership between United Way, LISC Boston, the Mayor’s Office of Financial Empowerment and a growing network of partners, with an ultimate goal of empowering 25,000 Bostonians to reach a prime credit score of 660+ by 2025.

Supporting Young Children

Shared Services provides early childhood education center directors and administrators across Greater Boston with access to shared classroom and teaching resources including material discounts and lesson plans, plus $30 million in shared buying power. With this extra support, administrators can focus less on running their business and more on ensuring their students receive a great education.

Preparing Youth for Success

BoSTEM is cross-sector collaboration between Boston After School & Beyond, Boston Public Schools, and STEM companies across Greater Boston. Industry professionals volunteer their time and experience as part of kids’ after school and out of school time. The program aims to provide 10,000 Boston middle school students with engaging STEM learning opportunities by 2022.
