Community Baby ShowerUnited Way’s Women’s Leadership Council hosts celebration to connect new Moms with parental resources and donated baby gifts

For many expecting mothers, having a baby is an exciting time to celebrate; but for those who do not have the resources and support needed, it can be a stressful and overwhelming experience. Today, United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley held its fifth annual Community Baby Shower, hosting 75 local families and more than 200 people, including volunteers.

In the spirit of a traditional baby shower, the event connects pregnant women and new parents with each other, while offering educational presentations, resource tables, donated baby items, plus dinner, games and prizes. Each expectant and new mother will receive a gift bag containing necessities and educational materials for the beginning of their journey into parenthood.

The event itself is the “baby” of United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council, who five years ago hosted the first event to support expecting mothers and provide them with resources as well as the companionship and advice that is so important during this time.  The event is sponsored by BMC HealthNetPlan with many of the baby items donated by local businesses such as The Little Fox, TWELVElittle, Bitsy’s Brainfood, and more.
