Year in Impact: Youth Unleashed

This was a very exciting year for Youth Unleashed, one of our Youth Venture teams! The West Roxbury-based Ohrenberger Community Center team was selected as one of the 128 early-stage startups for the MassChallenge Accelerator Program for 2017. United Way’s Youth Venture initiative invests in teams of youth to develop, launch, manage and sustain community-benefiting projects, and provides them with ongoing training, mentoring and financial support to actualize their ideas.

Youth Unleashed developed an “app” to engage more youth in community center programming and activities in the City of Boston. Last year, they not only won $10,000 from United Way to help launch their venture formally, they also won an additional $6,000 from the Accelerator Startup Challenge at Wentworth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center.  

Since being selected as a MassChallenge finalist, they’ve been covered by the Boston Globe, WCVB-TV channel 5 and NBC Boston, to name a few media outlets. Read their inspiring story.
