Year in Impact: Women United Come Out in Force for Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday is quickly becoming the largest single day of giving in the world. This year, the Women United Executive Committee took on a challenge – they wanted to match every donation we raised on Giving Tuesday, up to $20,000. These dedicated women understood that with their leadership, Giving Tuesday could have a tremendous impact in our community, while at the same time galvanizing the members of Women United around United Way’s Family Fund, which provides emergency assistance to families in need.
And the Women of Women United delivered. They were able to raise the $20,000 within their own ranks, and then used their influence to encourage others to give. Amidst a flurry of emails and phone calls and social media posts, we watched the numbers grow, to a final total of $23,200, surpassing our goal by more than $3,000 and unlocking the $20,000 match.
The gift of $43,200 went to the United Way Family Fund. The Family Fund provides much-needed emergency assistance during the winter, when struggling families need it the most. Gifts to this fund go toward fuel, utility and basic needs support, which are often the difference between a family keeping their heads above water and grappling with the real threat of homelessness.
