Year in Impact: AmeriCorps Reduces Dropout Rates in Lynn

The new school year kicked off a new year of service for United Way’s North Shore Americorps Program. This AmeriCorps team of 20 members, funded by United Way, the National Corporation for Public Service and the Massachusetts Service Alliance, are spending the year working to improve academic outcomes and reduce dropout rates among English Language Learner students in Lynn and Salem.

Last year, AmeriCorps members supported 400 students in Lynn and Salem with academic and social emotional interventions both during school and in out-of-school-time programming. The team members are placed to serve alongside Salem Public Schools and Lynn Public Schools and community-based organizations in the two cities to provide tutoring, mentoring and academic support services to immigrant students and their families.
