This Is Where Your Giving Tuesday Dollars Go
While we’re on the road to recovery this Giving Tuesday, too many families are still unable to make ends meet. Stand with us to help power more equitable and resilient communities for all.
DONATETogether, we’re rebuilding more equitable and resilient communities for all.
Last year, we mobilized our deep partnerships with hundreds of nonprofit organizations, state and municipal leaders, and thousands of businesses to:
- Deploy over $25 million in Covid-19 relief and recovery funds
- Provide more than 400,000 people with emergency financial assistance, helping them to pay for food, housing, utilities, and other essential needs
- Field nearly 500,000 calls for assistance with Covid-19 resources, mental health support and other essential needs through United Way’s 2-1-1 hotline
It’s going to take much more than emergency financial assistance to help our communities emerge stronger and more prepared for the future. Your support of United Way this year will:
- Prevent those who have lost income from losing their housing.
- Pivot job training programs to prepare displaced workers for new positions.
- Expand access to early education to provide a solid foundation for young learners and empower parents/caregivers to get back to work and contribute to the economy.
- Engage our most vulnerable students with the social and emotional supports they need as they return to school by expanding access to afterschool programs
- Address the systemic racial and ethnic disparities revealed and heightened by the crisis.
You can help fuel a fast and inclusive recovery from Covid-19. We’re grateful to everyone who has joined us in this fight.
Our vision
While the pandemic has left no one untouched, it also put a spotlight on the alarming disparities that have always existed throughout our region. As we look toward recovery, this pivotal moment demands an equity-forward response. At United Way, this is the lens that will guide us to move forward in reimagining and rebuilding a more resilient community for everyone.

Our Impact
- Homelessness is rising as a result of a widening gap between costs and income, impacting health and educational outcomes for generations. As a result of our funding, advocacy and partnerships, over 13,400 families stayed in their homes last year.
- A large portion of the workforce does not have access to jobs that pay family sustaining wages, nor the resources they need to improve their credit, increase savings, and reduce debt. As a result of our partner and program funding, over 8,600 families received supports to achieve greater economic mobility.
- Not enough children are able to access high quality early education and care, which is key to healthy child development and a stable workforce and economy. We are the largest private funder of early childhood education in Massachusetts. As a result of our funding and leadership, over 18,400 young children are ready to learn in kindergarten each year.
- Youth lack the opportunity to practice critical skills and gain experiences that are needed to succeed in the workforce and in life. Because of our support, over 64,400 young people received critical social and emotional support and improved the skills they need to succeed.
