Introducing: The Corps
Twelve individuals, working together for one purpose: to serve the community of Lynn.
United Way is running point on a unique new project, designed to bring together partners to tackle a specific issue in Lynn: the challenge that immigrant children and their families face while trying to achieve academic success.
A team of 12 AmeriCorps members have been deployed in Lynn Public Schools and partner agencies, their work spanning the next three years. The team will provide key support services and ensure a holistic approach throughout the community to reduce the dropout rate among immigrant students.
Totaling an investment of nearly $1 million in the City of Lynn, the program is funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Service Alliance (MSA) and the Corporation for National Community Service (CNCS) for $189,000 per year for 3 years, plus a United Way match of $227,000 per year.
Each group believes in its mission and wishes to leave a legacy of real change and real impact. Tune in tomorrow for the first installment of the The Corp’s legacy! And follow their ongoing stories at speakunited.org/thecorps.
