#ThePowerofUs is Fueling Our Impact This Giving Tuesday

Update!  Our generous donors collectively gave more than $100,000 on Giving Tuesday, which Eversource has doubled, resulting in $200,000 in impact for families in our community.  Thank you!!

The holiday season is a time to give thanks. We’re particularly grateful for our remarkable network of partners—community-based non-profits, corporate partners, donors large and small—whose tireless commitment to our shared goal of economic justice is empowering countless families in our region to thrive.

But while many of us prepare for a joyous holiday feast, thousands of our neighbors are working hard to stay afloat. As winter approaches, rising global energy costs and inflation create new stress for hard-working families who want to pay their bills and put food on the table.

This Giving Tuesday, United Way joins forces with Eversource to power up our donors’ impact so that more local families can stay warm, housed and nourished through the chilly months ahead. This Giving Tuesday, Eversource will match dollar for dollar every donation made to United Way. That means a $100 gift becomes $200, doubling donor impact.

Giving Tuesday donations support the United Way Family Fund, which provides “last resort” emergency assistance for local families and individuals. Our community-based partners deploy these funds immediately to help community members pay for utilities, rent, food and other necessities individuals and families need to thrive and even save for their futures

“At Eversource, we’re committed to the wellbeing of people in the cities and towns where we work and live,” said Theresa Hopkins-Staten, Vice President, Corporate Citizenship and Equity at Eversource. “United Way, through its network of community-based service providers, ensures that the money we raise goes immediately to those who need it most, so families can stay strong and thrive.”

The collective generosity of our community on Giving Tuesday supports the United Way Family Fund, which provides immediate, emergency assistance for critical needs like heat, food and shelter. In 2021, because of the Family Fund:

  • 11,284 more households stayed warm when the temperatures dropped.
  • 2,657 more families remained in safe and stable housing.
  • 74,549 more parents provided healthy food for their families.
  • 740 more people could get to a doctor’s appointment or job interview without worrying about transportation costs.

This year we’re poised to do even more.

“With a vast network of corporate partners, non-profit organizations, donors, and volunteers, United Way is uniquely positioned to make a profound and lasting impact on our communities,” said Bob Giannino, President and CEO at United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley.

“By harnessing the power of these partnerships, we’ll break the cycle of poverty and injustice in our region.”
