The Corps: Valentines and Talent Shows

United Way is running point on a unique project, designed to bring together partners to tackle a specific issue in Lynn: the challenge that immigrant children and their families face while trying to achieve academic success. A team of 12 AmeriCorps members have been deployed in Lynn Public Schools and partner agencies, their work spanning the next three years. These are their stories.

The winter months brought a handful of fun activities the staffers participated in, as they continue to do their work in Lynn.

Valentines at Girls. Inc

Erica McCarthy, who’s working a Catholic Charities North in the ESOL program, took some time out to help out at Girls Inc. for a special MLK service project. Together, with fellow AmeriCorps staffer Aquila Browne, Erica helped make Valentine’s Day cards at Girls Inc. for the elderly.

Winter Talent Show

Speaking of Aquila,  here she is on December 18, at the first annual Teen Scene’s Got Talent Show, put on by The Teen Scene Enrichment Program at Family Children’s Service of Greater Lynn. The program included skits, comedy acts, magic tricks and songs with accompaniment from Aquila herself. The Teen Scene staff performed the closing number, “Winter Wonderland.
