Brown Brothers Harriman’s Tim Connelly to lead annual giving effort
BOSTON – Tim Connelly, Partner at Brown Brothers Harriman, has been named Development Chair of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley’s annual giving effort that will begin July 1 and run through June 30 of 2015, the organization announced today. In this volunteer leadership role, Connelly will lead a corps of 20 volunteers from greater Boston’s financial services, health care, legal, retail, higher education and real estate industries to inspire individuals and corporate partners throughout the region to volunteer and donate to help increase school readiness, prevent high school drop out and create more opportunities to lift families out of poverty.

Durkin, President at United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley. “We are incredibly fortunate that he will be leading our efforts over the upcoming fiscal year to offer opportunities for volunteers and donors to take action to help young children get the right start, keep young people engaged in school so they graduate and help families get better jobs and safe, secure housing.”

Connelly’s prior volunteer leadership with United Way has led to the creation of one of the organization’s most successful corporate partnerships. Brown Brothers Harriman partnered with United Way four years ago to provide critical financial resources and volunteers to programs that prepare youth to be college and work-ready. The result: The College Readiness Network created by BBH and United Way last year provided homework help, tutoring, academically enriching activities to 4,170 youth and connected 460 youth with valuable summer or school year jobs, work readiness programs and college and career exploration opportunities.

Connelly is a 30-year veteran of BBH. He has previously held portfolio management and business management roles in the Firm’s Investment Management division. Following those assignments, Tim directed BBH’s Investor Services business in the Americas, and was responsible for all activities relating to U.S. mutual fund complexes and/or sophisticated financial institutions in the region.
Tim also acts as an Overseer of Northeastern University and is a member of the Finance Committee at CottingSchool. In addition to serving on the Board of United Way of Massachusetts Bay and MerrimackValley, Tim is an active Board Member of New England Disabled Sports. Tim is a graduate of Williams College, has an MBA from Northeastern University, and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
United Way recently announced a three-year plan to support community partners and strategies that are most effective in increasing school readiness, preventing high-school dropout and creating more opportunities to lift families out of poverty. The plan will help ready more than 8,000 children for kindergarten and provide an additional 7,500 children with social or emotional challenges the supports they need to stay on track. Over the next year, United Way funding will also provide academic support to almost 13,000 young people and will place over 3,500 youth in one-to-one mentoring relationships. In addition, funding will help nearly 7,000 adults get the skills and credentials they need for employment, will help almost 3,000 adults to get jobs, and will provide affordable housing and related supports to almost 18,000 families.
