50 Days of Thanks

At United Way, we have a lot to be thankful for:

  • A network of 185 high-performing community-based organizations that make a difference in our community every day.
  • 60,000 donors that support our work with their generosity.
  • Volunteers who graciously give their time and talent to help others.
  • ‘Tis the season for pumpkin spice and apple cider.

And we want to celebrate ALL of that!

As today marks 50 days until Thanksgiving, we are kicking off a #50DaysofThanks social media campaign and will be posting every day on Facebook and Twitter something that United Way staff, community partners, and friends are thankful for – anything from the most gratifying aspects of our work, to a day of beautiful fall sunshine.

We started out by asking our staff to tell us the FIRST thing that came to mind that they are thankful for and we will be sharing those responses over the next 50 days.

United Way President Mike Durkin was the first to respond:

I’m thankful for all those 450 volunteers who got engaged in helping determine where United Way funds should go to help others.

I’m also thankful for great autumn weather for one more big bike ride!

We also want to know what YOU are thankful for! Be sure to follow along and share your own moments of gratitude with the hashtag #50DaysofThanks on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.

Fall also marks the start of our annual Thanksgiving Project. We are incredibly thankful to once again provide Thanksgiving groceries to 5,500 families in our community who otherwise wouldn’t be able to enjoy a holiday meal.

Thanksgiving is also a great opportunity for families to give back together: organize a canned food drive at your company or school, volunteer to help pack the grocery bags the week before Thanksgiving, or donate – just $40 provides a holiday meal to a struggling family.
